BIOGRAPHY
Nancy Bishop, CSA is an award winning international casting director, based in London.An American with strong ties to Los Angeles, she launched her film career in Prague before establishing her London office in 2015. She is the founder and former President of the European branch of the Casting Society of America (CSA).
With an extensive portfolio spanning major feature films and television, Nancy has worked with leading studios such as Paramount, Fox, and Universal, as well as top streaming platforms like Amazon, Apple, and Netflix.
Renowned for her keen eye for talent, she has been entrusted by some of the industry’s most influential creatives, including Sacha Baron Cohen for Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm, a project that earned her a CSA Artios Award for Best Casting in a Comedy. Her credits also include working alongside Brad Bird on Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Bong Joon Ho on Snowpiercer. Passionate about independent cinema, she has cast scores of films, including Miranda’s Victim, the final film of Donald Sutherland’s prolific career. Additionally, her casting work on Anne Frank: The Whole Story starring Sir Ben Kingsley for ABC/Disney earned her an Emmy nomination. She has been nominated twice by actors for Mandy Awards in Casting, and is well known for her advice to actors on her weekly ““#CastingTipTuesday,” on social media sites.
A native of New England, Nancy trained as an actor and director at the National Theatre Institute. She later earned a Master of Arts in Theatre History from Northwestern University. She began her career in Chicago, where she was participated in the foundation of two groundbreaking theatre companies—Strawdog Theatre and Theater Oobleck—both of which continue to thrive today. In the early 1990s, drawn by the artistic energy of post-Iron Curtain Prague, she directed and produced numerous theatre productions across Europe for Black Box Theatre. This chapter of her life was later captured in the cult film, Rex-Patriates, a mock-documentary film she produced and directed.
Beyond casting, Nancy is a dedicated acting coach and educator. She founded the Acting for Film program at the Prague Film School and has authored three books on the art of auditioning. Her latest, Auditioning for Film and TV: A Post-#MeToo Guide (Bloomsbury), is available worldwide.
In addition to the CSA, Nancy is an active member of several prestigious industry organizations, including BAFTA, the Television Academy, the European Film Academy, the International Casting Directors Association (ICDA), and the Casting Directors Guild (CDG).
