3-Day Master Class in Paris
Nancy Bishop, CSA Casting Director and author, of Secrets from the Casting Couch, offers special Master Classes in Paris, January 24-26, 2014.
Summary: This three day intensive series of Master Classes is designed for actors who wish to brush up on their professional on screen audition skills as well as to make connections in the international acting community. Each actor will get professional feedback and a copy of their scene work. The three day Master Class will be co-taught by Joel Kirby, Head Acting Coach of the Nancy Bishop Technique.

09:30 Meet at venue for welcome coffee, and introduction.
10:00-13:30 Marketing Seminar for International Work
In this seminar, actors will learn how to present themselves for international work; how to
crack into the US and European markets. Marketing skills covered will include how to
develop an effective CV, chose a key photo for headshots, and create a show reel and
website. Casting videos from successful actors will be screened.
13:30 Lunch
14:30-18:00 Archetype Workshop. Actors should bring their photos and CVs for discussion. The
class will view and critique one another’s headshots, helping to pinpoint a key archetypal
image for each actor.

10:00-13:30 Master Class: Strategies for Film Auditioning
13:30 Lunch
14:30-18:00 continuation of Master Class. This section targets specific strategies for casting, including cold reading skills, and audition technique. Actors will be assigned scenes from a variety of genres to prepare for the following day.
Sunday, 26th January 2014
10:00-13:30 Master Class Scene Study. Actors will further develop auditioning and screen acting skills with a mock casting by taping and reviewing scenes.
13:30 Lunch
14:30-18:00 continuation of shooting scenes followed by reviewing and critique.
18:00 Farewell drink.
About Nancy: Emmy-award nominated, American Casting Director, Nancy Bishop, has cast over sixty American and British films, from her base in Prague. She has cast for major feature films including and Mission Impossible IV, Roman Polanski’s Oliver Twist, Prince Caspian, Bourne Identity, and she recently finished the European casting on Bong Joon-Ho’s Snowpiercer, starring Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, and Octavia Spencer. His international film acting credits include, Babylon A.D., Euro Trip, Harrison´s Flowers, Hitler: The Rise of Evil, Anne Frank: The Whole Story, Beyond the Sea, The Ghostwriter (directed by Roman Polanski) and Faust directed by Alexandr Sokurov, awarded the 2011 Golden Lion for Best Film in Venice. German films credits include, Drei Schwestern: Made in Germany, Erkan und Stefan and most recently award-winning Hannah Arendt directed by Margarethe von Trotta. 11:00-17:00 Master Class: Screen Acting Technique
Day 1 – Actors will watch and critique actual film castings of successful actors and discuss the techniques they used. Actors then participate in a series of exercises that develop effective methods that work on camera. Material covered will include close-up vs. wide shot techniques, playing an inner monologue and playing in the eyes. At the end of class, actors will be assigned a scene to prepare for mock castings the next day.

11:00-17:00 Master Class: Strategies for Screen Casting –Scene Study
Day 2 – Actors will apply the techniques they learned on Day One to perform a casting session in front of camera. The scenes, chosen from actual film scripts from projects that Nancy has cast, will include a variety of genres ranging from historical drama, to action/thriller to sci-fi. This mock casting enables actors to further develop their auditioning and screen acting skills. The scenes will be taped and reviewed.
