Shooting in Prague: July-Aug, 2013

Based on the first of a trilogy by Tom Rob Smith and set in the Stalin era of the Soviet Union. The plot is about an idealistic pro-Stalin security officer who decides to investigate a series of murders. He gets demoted and exiled but decides, with just the help of his wife, to continue pursuing the case.

Currently seeking child actors:
We need mostly boys age 7-12 who speak English, preferably with a Slavic accent. Previous acting experience is not necessary. Director is happy to work with amateurs. There are a few non-speaking roles also. All children should look Russian.

We also need a few girls age 7-11 who speak English but look Russian.

Summary: This three day intensive series of Master Classes is designed for actors who wish to brush up on their professional on screen audition skills as well as to make connections in the international acting community. Each actor will get professional feedback and a copy of their scene work.

In this seminar, actors will learn how to present themselves for international work; how to crack into the US and European markets. Marketing skills covered will include how to develop an effective C.V, chose a key photo for headshots, and create a show reel and website. Casting videos from successful actors will be screened.

14:30-17:00      Archetype Workshop.

Actors should bring their photos and C.V.s for discussion. The class will view and critique another’s headshots, helping to pinpoint a key archetypal image for each actor.

CASTING WORKSHOPS FOR INTERNATIONAL ACTORS– CANNES May 2012

Nancy Bishop, CSA Casting Director will teach a series of casting workshops, with special guests Producer Ilene Kahn Power and Talent Manager, Derek Power

In this workshop, actors will have the opportunity for coaching and advice by industry professionals who are casting film and TV internationally. Ideal for actors who wish to improve auditioning skills in English and make valuable connections for international work, in this three-hour workshop actors will prepare assigned scenes in advance. Nancy Bishop (US/Prague) will provide one to one coaching, with the proven technique outlined in her book, Secrets from the Casting Couch. Subsequently, the scenes will be taped, reviewed and critiqued by Derek Power, or Ilene Kahn from Kahn Power Pictures.

Nancy Bishop, CSA, has cast more than sixty films from her base in Prague ranging from large scale studio pictures, such as Mission Impossible IV, Prince Caspian, and The Bourne Identity, to independent films such as The Illusionist and Roman Polanski’s Oliver Twist . Nancy handled European casting on the new ABC series, Missing and was nominated for an Emmy Award for her work on Anne Frank, the Whole Story. She is also a top ranked acting coach and teacher. At the Prague Film School, she founded the Acting for Film Program, and penned the best-selling book, Secrets from the Casting Couch. Currently she is casting Snowpiercer with award winning Director Bong Joon-Li.

Ilene Kahn Power is an Award winning producer whose films have won multiple Golden Globe and Emmy Awards.  She has produced movies and miniseries such as GIA starring Angelina Jolie, Roswell starring Martin Sheen and Kyle Mclachlan, Stalin starring Robert Duvall and Maximillian Schell, White Mile, starring Alan Alda, Elvis, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Traffic the miniseries for USA Network, Fatherland starring Rutger Hauer, Buffalo Soldier starring Danny Glover and Who Is Clark Rockefeller starring Eric McCormack. Ilene Kahn Power  is a former Senior Executive with HBO Films where she developed and oversaw the production of over sixty films.  She is currently producing two feature length documentaries and is in active development on several motion pictures, series and miniseries.

Derek Power is a film producer and artists’ manager representing actors, directors, and composers. Together with his wife, Ilene Kahn Power, they run Kahn Power Pictures, Inc a Beverly Hills based talent management and production company. As Producer Power’ credit include Peter Weir‘s The Last Wave, Dennis Hopper’s The Hot Spot and Tobe Hooper’s The Funhouse, and Sony’s recent Sniper: Reloaded. His earlier International Film Sales experience includes the worldwide distribution of more than 100 motion pictures.  Power was Executive Music Producer for numerous films and TV series notably Highlander. As his manager, Power guided actor Sir Ben Kingsley into a series of films including Sexy Beast, Anne Frank,and The House Of Sand And Fog all three of which earned Kingsley multiple acting nominations from Golden Globes to Oscars. A 30 year relationship with Stewart Copeland, Sting and The Police brought Power and Copeland and their film  Everyone Stares: The Police Inside Out to its 2006 Sundance Festival premiere. Derek and Ilene Power are actively preparing more than a half-a-dozen new films and television projects.

THREE DAY SCREEN ACTING +AUDITION CLASS

Day 1: MARKETING FOR INTERNATIONAL WORK. In this seminar, actors will learn how to present themselves for international work, highlighting how to crack into the US and UK markets. DAY2:  SCREEN ACTING TECHNIQUE CLASS: Actors participate in a series of practical exercises that develop effective methods for screen acting. Material covered will include learning how to calibrate a performance for close-up vs. wide shot, playing an inner monologue, playing reaction shots and playing in the eyes. All participants will receive a free copy of “Secrets from the Casting Couch.”

Day 3: AUDITON STRATEGY: This class will target specific strategies for casting, including cold reading skills, and audition technique. Actors will also do a casting session on camera with coaching from Nancy. All participants will get a free copy of “Secrets from the Casting Couch.”

All actors should bring a photo and resume and present one memorized
Shakespeare monologue, performed in English, not exceeding 2 minutes. Actors
should be prepared to stay immediately following their audition in the event
they are called back for Rehearsals for the production will begin March 7,
2011 in Houston, TX. This project is an international collaboration between
the Prague Shakespeare Festival, located in Prague, Czech Republic and the
Classical Theatre Company, located in Houston, TX.

Callback sides from As You Like It and King Lear will be provided for all
actors who are called back. All auditions will be videotaped. Actors who
have previously worked with PSF or Guy Roberts and who are interested in
casting opportunities may contact Guy Roberts directly, bypassing the
general audition and schedule a callback. All others must come to the
general audition and then be invited to callbacks.

All artists selected for participation in the production will be paid
minimum of 4.000cz per week for a total of ten weeks of work (40.000cz).
Individual artists may be offered higher weekly salary commiserate with
experience and scope of work performed. All housing and transportation
expenses to Houston, TX will be paid for by the producers.

All actors will be seen on a first-come, first-serve basis. Designers and
Stage Managers may also come to the open call to submit resumes and
portfolios. Designers and Stage Managers must submit a portfolio and/or
resume that can be taken to Houston for consideration by the producers.
